I had to open my first ever post with the instrumentals of the track that opens one of the greatest rap albums of all time – ‘NY STATE OF MIND’ (Nas, Illmatic). The sound captures the essence of the gritty concrete jungle. The dark piano riff is diabolical (world domination/heist planning music).
This sinister beat unleashed a beast back in ’94 and it is with this overture…I unleash my voice.

No, I am not gonna lay down a freestyle unfortunately
My primary motivation for starting this personal project is to force myself to create and publish content. Only until recently, I fit the profile of worst form of social media user that exists – a ‘lurker’. I would mindlessly scroll through news feeds with no effort to interact and pursue conversations. Now, I try to make a conscious effort to share meaningful, targeted content and provoke discussion through commenting and replying to tweets in an attempt to provide some value (or at the very least, provide social recognition through likes and favoriting) . Still, I find that I am capable of doing more to build my online presence.
This blog’s mandate is to combat the bad habit of passive absorption of online content. In the interconnected digital society we live in today, content creation is king. It is imperative to form opinions and ideas from all the information we consume online. From there, the next step is to share these thoughts and ideas with the hopes of enlightening others and sparking them to create and share.
I’ve also been inspired by the various blogs started recently by many of my friends. Whether it be travel blogs of 3rd year commerce students on exchange, professional development blogs, or special interest blogs like sports commentary, there is content suitable for everyone being produced by those in close proximity to me. I am very impressed by the ideas and quality of writing of my peers and feel compelled to follow their lead.
To wrap up the freestyling motif of this inaugural post, I assert that at this point in time, I have no clear direction of where this blog is headed and what kinds of material will surface. That’s the beauty of freestyle rapping; you’re thrown into the beat and expected to swim, improivse, stay afloat. The beat may change up and you respond instinctively by changing up the flow. Spontaneity and uncertainty make life worthwhile.
